A macro-environmental study of a Common Toad (Bufo bufo) during the critical transition into seasonal dormancy. Suspended in dark, still water amongst fallen foliage, the composition contrasts the smooth surface tension and vibrant palette of the changing season with the highly granular, tactile skin of the amphibian. Biologically, the image captures the thermodynamic reality of an ectotherm preparing for winter brumation, visually anchoring the organism to the shifting physical conditions of its habitat. Presented on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta mounted to aluminium Dibond with a 6 mm natural oak floater frame.
